GENERAL INFORMATION
-------------------
VETMED is an Email List exclusively devoted to the discussion of
veterinary topics. Any and all discussion on this topic is welcome
as long as it follows a few simple rules, as detailed below.
This is a privately owned list, although the public is free to
subscribe to the list. The List Owners reserve the final right to
determine who may remain subscribed. We ask that everyone
subscribing to the list do so as a private individual interested in
veterinary topics. If you are representing a company or other
commercial interest, we ask you to note that advertising is strictly
prohibited on this list.
Please note, in accordance with the rules of the IUPUI site agreement,
no one may set up gateways to mirror this list anywhere. The
authors of posts to VETMED retain the copyright to their posts,
and you must ask the original author's permission if you wish to
repost or republish a VETMED post in another venue.
VETMED is currently a moderated mailing list. This means the posts
are sent to a list moderator before being posted to the list. The
list will be kept as a moderated list for as long as the owners
deem necessary to keep the list discussions relevant to veterinary
issues and to prevent flame wars.
Please note that the list moderators reserve the right to reject
posts for any reason. Also note that there will in most cases be
some time lag between the time a post is sent to the list and the
time it appears on the list.
LIST GUIDELINES:
---------
We, your List Administrators, do not want to act as Net Police.
However, this is a privately owned List and we have the right to eject
troublemakers. We would rather avoid this problem in the first place
and ask your cooperation in complying with the following:
* All posts should be related to veterinary medical issues.
While there are many other important topics in the world of
animals, there are other venues for those discussions.
Discussion of pet training issues, for example, would best be
directed to one of the lists devoted to behavior and training
of the species in question.
* Because some List members pay for their access either on a per
message basis or by volume, please keep your messages short and
concise and keep quoting of old material to the minimum necessary.
You WILL get an automated reminder of this if you overstep this
criteria. In particular, watch out if your mailer automatically
appends the entire text of the message you respond to at the end.
* Disagreements are to be expected; blatant rudeness and lack of
respect are NOT expected nor will they be tolerated. Anyone who
repeatedly flames on the List or threatens another List member
will be removed and barred from the list.
* Do not repost material appearing on this List elsewhere without
first asking permission of the original author of the material.
If someone complains to us that a List member has done this, we
may remove that person from this List at our discretion. Note
that does not mean your correspondence can be considered private;
you should treat anything sent to the list as something that was
said publicly.
* Similarly, do not post anything on VETMED which has appeared on
another email list unless you have the author's permission.
* Advertising on this List by commercial entities on this list is
absolutely prohibited. This is to be distinguished from satisfied
customers recommending one product or another so long as they
disclaim any relationship to the company other than as a customer.
* Watch out for mailers that add attachments and other encoded
material (especially Windows '95 that adds the evil winmail.dat
attachment!!). Please do not send these to the list. Most mailers
have a menu option to turn attachments off. Always send your
messages as plain text - without encoding or attachments.
* Personal chatting is discouraged. If threads start to drift away
from veterinary topics please take them to private email.
* Please try to keep your subject headers appropriate to the topic
discussed in your mail and change the subject headers if your
reply drifts from the original topic.
* Diverse opinions are welcome. However, we ask that you treat
other listmembers with respect. Personal insults are not welcome
on this list.
